Peaches!

Afer calling around checking prices for local peaches, I decided on Stargazer to get my peaches this year and was very happy with the quality. The peaches were huge and the skins came off super easy! I got 67 quarts (minus 14 quarts for Holly). My thinking was to do double the amount this year and then each year after I will only have to do half as many and will have a constant 2 year supply.
Last year I did 60 quarts of apples sauce and we still have plenty to carry us over this year.
Next will be pears. Those should be in any day now. I really do enjoy canning.

Having home canned goods reminds me of my grandma. I wish my grandma could know the influence she had on me when I was young and we would visit her. Of course, when I was young, I never thought about it, but now that I'm a mom and have the opportunity to do these things, I look to my grandma's example way back when. She had a garden, canned goods (among other home made goods), and a hummingbird feeder. I hope that one day we will be in a place where we can have chickens like she did. I have a hummingbird feeder, but I haven't seen any birds! My grandma also used to live near a river that I loved to go to when we visited her. Now I take my kids to the river. I always wanted to live in the country and be out of the city. I'm so glad I can raise my kids in a small town and teach them how to have fun being outdoors in the mountains or at the river or riding bikes etc.

Oh they look so beautiful! You are going to have a great influence your kiddies. They are going to grow up real live Mormons to the core. Cool.

Summer, those jars and jars of peaches all lined up really are beautiful, like Dad said. So rewarding, huh? You don't remember when I used to can fruit but I know the feeling of pride in doing the work and the security of having a good supply on hand. Plus, they really are pretty. I'm glad you have good memories of Grandma. Sweet tribute to her, Summer. : )

Ooooh! Those peaches look really good! Are you sure you didn't secretly make them all for me? Heheh! That was a lot of work--Thank you for taking care of my share of the peaches! That was so nice! I can't wait to taste them!

Wowza!! That looks like it was a ton of work. I am glad you enjoyed it!! Nothing beats home canned food!!! I have a love hate relationship with canning- once I get into it I usually enjoy it and I certainly enjoy the fruits of my labor when I do it, but I kinda dread it because it can seem like such a big job in the beginning. Kinda like everything I suppose:) I just need to work on my attitude I guess! Thanks for the inspiration again;)
